The Ballerina Look: Twirling at the end of year show.....for a love of dance!

Polly and me getting ready backstage for our little ballet performance!
Helloo my lovely darlings! Apologies for the delay in posting......it has been a very full week from BouBou's Birthday to work and ballet! Thank you so much for all your wonderful comments and support as usual...every single one is most appreciated and I am catching up on the replies! Some of you may know that I have been taking a Beginners Ballet course for some time and it was the Performing Arts End of Year Show on Friday 29th June 2012!

So together with other dance forms such as Flamenco, African, Contemporary and Belly Dancing, our Ballet class took the stage at the Brady Arts Centre in Whitechapel (East London) for a night of celebration with family and friends. Unfortunately I only have some practice and backstage photos, as my friends were unable to join us for the night, but on the plus side......at least the secret of how bad and clumsy a ballerina I really am shall stay hidden! Most importantly I really enjoyed performing with my ballet classmates, and the fluttering excitement of going on stage reminded me of my girlhood when I used to perform cultural dances! My friend Polly, who is beautifully passionate about dance, was taking front stage in performing the Flamenco as well as Ballet with us! If you happen to be a great dancer or a Ballerina then please do forgive me for my clumsy port de bras and rusty foot positions....eventhough I love dancing I must admit I don't have a natural talent for it and often lack hand-eye-body-etc-coordination skills. So without further ado......here is some photos of the End of Year Show evening and I hope you will like my ballerina look!

I love the dynamic movement of the dancers behind me in this photo!

Besides Ballet and Birthday celebrations, I also received a lovely surprise from the sweet Wendy at the Butterfly Balcony on BouBou's Birthday......she awarded me with the 'One Lovely Blog Award'! [Link to Wendy's blog, the Butterfly Balcony: thebutterflybalcony.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/blog-award-] Lots of thanks to Wendy and there will be more on that in a more formal receiving award post, as well as some ideas for special occasion looks as the wedding season is just round the corner! Right.....I am off to get ready for a leaving do and a Birthday at the Dorsia tonight! Have a fabulously sweet weekend my darlings and enjoy the sunshine!

Until the next time,
May xx

  1. Awww May you look the very epitome of a Prima Ballerina! I used to take ballet classes as a child and was once told by the teacher that I had all the grace of a fairy elephant, which can't be good;) I hope Bou Bou had a great Birthday and that you had a wonderful time last night! Enjoy your sunday xx

How-To: Do 1930s to 1950s....a Vintage inspired twist to glitz-up your evening look!

With only three days to go before my vintage themed birthday do.....it's all getting a little exciting and I am still finalising my 1920s Great Gatsby inspired look in my head! So I thought it might be helpful to think about building other vintage looks too...just in case any of you lovely darlings are attending a vintage party or in need of any inspiration!

To me, the real glitz and glam began in the 1920s but evolved into a deeper feminine state towards the 1930s....which carried on through to the 1950s because of an addictive fascination with the glamorous silver screen. The 1930s was not a trouble free decade by any means, as the Great Depression and WW2 began broiling in the backdrop of society. But with all the unrest came an opportunity for many to sooth their sores in the world of cinema.....and so the age of the silver screen sirens began captivating the world! There were shifts in day wear becoming more practical as WW2 shook the world and fashion seemed to have halted f…

Qipao Love: Part 5 ~ How-To choose and wear a Qipao (Cheongsam) that will love your frame!

A little warning is probably in order my darlings...as this will be a rather comprehensive How-To Qipao post! I will try to incorporate my own knowledge as well as what I researched through time, to create a rough but helpful guide for ladies who might want to attempt wearing the Qipao! Why do I say attempt? In today's fast paced life the Qipao has become a rather occasional dress even for a faithful admirer like me and I can understand why it might not be the most popular attire in the world, but I also know that many ladies who admire the Qipao might resist the idea of wearing it because of different barriers. Being a lover of the Qipao myself...trust me I know the fearful qualms and muffin top resistance to wearing a Qipao all too well.....whether it is a matter of figure, budget, impression, style, occasion, look or finding the excuse to wear a Qipao, I hope to be able to offer some help towards a solution and ask that you forgive me if I am too long winded. The Qipao really i…

Qipao Love: Part 8 ~ Qipao on the silver screen.....

The film that actually made the Qipao (Cheongsam) a frenzied fashion trend in the West, with dress patterns suddenly appearing for the public to create their own version of the style, was actually the American production 'Love is a Many Splendored Thing' (1955) with lead actress Jennifer Jones ...but the British production 'World of Suzie Wong' (1960) is often more remembered with the greater display of tightly glamorous Cheongsam dresses in every scene, the scandalous nature of the character's profession and lead actress Nancy Kwan's Golden Globe nomination. Just in case you lovely darlings may be wondering...I am indeed devotedly fascinated by the Qipao, as many of you can probably tell already, and I also found it interesting how this beautiful garment is depicted in different films on the silver screen...which is why this is Part 8 of 'Qipao Love'. Though this is a long list of beautiful films featuring the Qipao, each is unique with its own percept…
